So what is window patching? What does the <\/span>window patching process<\/b> look like in custom packaging?<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Window Patching?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Window patching<\/b> is a printing technique where a <\/span>thin plastic film<\/span><\/i> is applied to a <\/span>die cut<\/span><\/a> window. The <\/span>window<\/b> allows customers to see the products before opening the package. Adding a <\/span>film patch<\/b> increases product visibility and is commonly used when packaging baked goods, toys and snacks.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While <\/span>window patching<\/b> is often used in packaging for products like toys and snacks, but can be used for any type of product. A window can also be used to showcase the high quality and craftsmanship of higher-end luxury products. <\/span>

PET and PVC: Common Types of Window Patching Films<\/b><\/h2>\n

The most common types of film used in window patching are <\/span>polyethylene terephthalate (PET)<\/b> and <\/span>polyvinyl chloride (PVC)<\/b>. <\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>With <\/span>PET film<\/b>, the plastic is shaped into the style you want and then dried to offer greater protection. This makes the film virtually impossible to tamper with and gives it excellent protection even against regular handling. <\/span>PET film<\/b> is light, which may leave it prone to scratching, but it holds its own against external pressure while protecting the product within. This makes it a great option for retail and consumer-facing products, particularly food.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

PVC film<\/b>, on the other hand, is even more resistant to scuffs, wear and tear. It also weathers the elements well and holds its own against moisture. When exposed to UV rays, however, PVC film can degrade and discolor. <\/span>This can also create an odor and rippling within the packaging. Due to the odor, we do not recommend this type of film for packaging food or snacks, but we do recommend it for products that need added protection against heavy or frequent handling.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
