And judging by these numbers, you weren\u2019t alone:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the 2018 online holiday season sales were <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/247wallst.com\/retail\/2018\/11\/02\/us-shoppers-to-spend-124-billion-online-this-holiday-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">set to top $124 billion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 and that\u2019s in the US alone. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That represents a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/247wallst.com\/retail\/2018\/11\/02\/us-shoppers-to-spend-124-billion-online-this-holiday-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">14.8% increase<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from last year\u2019s holiday season.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A survey by Deloitte found that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.deloitte.com\/insights\/us\/en\/industry\/retail-distribution\/holiday-retail-sales-consumer-survey.html?nc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">60% of shoppers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Deloitte found that 60% of shoppers planned on doing their holiday shopping online.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether you have a small Etsy storefront, or you\u2019re running a giant eCommerce operation\u00a0\u2013 you\u2019re going to need an efficient shipping strategy in place. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At its most basic level, your shipping strategy should aim to get your goods to their destination in one piece and in a timely manner. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>But your shipping strategy encompasses so much more.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nowadays consumers expect an experience. That\u2019s one way to bleed money. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Superior customer service is essential for all facets of your shipping process. As a retailer you need to think of the whole branded experience \u2013 not just the physical package that\u2019s delivered on someone\u2019s doorstep.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This starts with acknowledging the order. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Customers appreciate communication, so it\u2019s important to check in throughout the shipping process. Tell your customers where their order is. And if it\u2019s going to be delivered later than promised \u2013 let them know as soon as you can. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s also helpful to provide your customers with a tracking number, so they know exactly when to expect their item. Once the item has been delivered, shoot them an email or text alerting them. Most people don\u2019t want their expensive purchase sitting out on their doorstep for hours unbeknownst to them. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shorr.com\/packaging-news\/2017-05\/2017-package-theft-report-porch-pirates-purchase-habits-and-privacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2017 Schorr package report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that nearly one-third of those surveyed had had a package stolen. No wonder this same study found that 53% of respondents changed their plans so they were home to receive a package \u2013 even if they didn\u2019t have to sign for it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span
